1. Social media shopping boom
Instagramand TikTokare no longer new terms in the social media shopping space. Younger target groups in particular are being influenced in their purchasing decisions by influencers on social media. In its “TMT Predictions” analysis, Deloitte even forecasts that more than 2 billion people will spend over USD 1 trillion via social commerce in 2023.
2. Advertising on streaming platforms
By the end of 2023, more and more streaming platforms will offer a cheaper version with advertising in addition to their original offering. A few years ago, this was a no-go, but more and more viewers are accepting advertising in exchange for a discounted subscription. In Germany, for example, Netflix now offers a discounted package with advertising. Amazon Prime has even created Freevee, a completely free alternative that is financed by advertising.
3. Virtual reality becomes reality
What is still seen as a gaming gimmick is expected to become widespread as early as next year, from the healthcare sector and product development to architecture. The hardware is becoming steadily cheaper and also more accessible to users. In the same Deloitte report, the virtual reality market is expected to generate $7 billion in revenue. This is an increase of 50% compared to the previous year. Virtual reality also has good chances in Germany: In a survey by Deloitte, 48% of consumers could imagine buying VR glasses.
4. Tech companies are in favor of climate protection
The issue of climate change is becoming increasingly explosive, and is therefore also having a growing influence on consumer buying behavior. According to the study, 73% of tech companies that manufacture cell phones and tablets, for example, want to be CO2 neutral by 2030 in order to remain relevant on the market. For non-tech companies, only 65% set this goal. These figures are also reflected among the executives of these companies: tech executives are more concerned about climate change and suffer more from its effects, such as extreme heat, forest fires or water shortages. At the same time, however, they are more optimistic than non-tech executives that they can make a difference to the current situation and are more likely to take action.
Conclusion
So, to summarize for the coming year, social media purchases will continue to grow in importance and sales will grow strongly in 2023. Streaming platforms will also start to offer ads to offset costs. Virtual reality is spreading in many areas and has good prospects for the future. Climate protection will also play a big role and tech companies will work harder to stay relevant in the market.
